We are reading a play called metamorphisis.

We picked an extract from the story and performed it to the class with our interpretation of that extract. in our scene i play as Mr s , Jethro is Mrs s and jack is Gregor. we interpreted the scene as me and Jethro offering jack money as he was ill

Compare how rob suskind presents the diffulcities of Cedrics education in part one and part two of his articles

In this essay I will be explaining how Ron suskind presents the difficulties of cedrics education in part one and two of his articles. Cedric goes through many diffuculties when in ballou high and in MIT, in ballou high violence, drugs and gangs and in MIT peer pressure, confidence and hard work. Throughout the articles suskind uses various language devices that suggest it was difficult for Cedric to maintain his education.

One of the devices suskind uses is metaphors. He uses this in article one, this can be seen here “the arduous odyssey of Cedric” this suggests that cedrics succes is s long, rough journey. I know this because the word ‘ardous’ means a long or hard struggle; then the word odyssey is taken from the Greek myth which tells the story of a man who goes on a tough long journey. This links to cedrics duffulcities in school because it’s suggesting that Cedric hasn’t got an easy journey in school, he has a hard one

Similarly, where the metaphor “the arduous journey” speaks  about Cedric facing diffulcites on his own, in article 2 rob suskind does the same. This can bee seen here  “for Cedric MIT has taken on almost mythic proportions” This suggests Cedrics individual difficulties. This also suggests that Cedric believes that him being in MIT is unreal, I know this because the author says “mythic proportions”.

Equipment

Meter-stick (measured in millimeters) to make the accurate measurements

A stopwatch will be needed to measure how much time it will take the parachute to drop.

A clamp will be needed to hold the meter stick at the top.

A stand to keep it straight because using a hand isnt accurate

To strong parachutes

Hi, my name is Javaun and I’m doing an experiment that WILL help your company make more money. I am already a qualified  physics scientist as I have the electromagnetic badge . i’m intending to improve the control of your parachute. in order to improve the control of the parachute i have to perform an experiment, which i need funding for. You will benefit from this because you will be able to vary how fast or slow you would like your parachute to fall and change the speed while using it, when the mass of the parachute increases the time it takes to drop decreases. This will also make your company much more money than other parachute companies because of its new features. All i’m asking is for some funding in order to perform the experiment which will, in return, make your company some SERIOUS money.

Make the right decision.

In this essay i am exploring and comparing the use of language in person and over text. their are man clear differences and some similarities. The most interesting part is why we talk a certain way over text unlike in person. i will also be using various examples of real life text messages to anaylse and compare to real life conversations.

Here is an example of a conversation with my dad which i will explore.

Conversation between myself and my dad:

Me: Where we going?

Dad: nans

Me: Ok

Dad: so you can go home after if you want

Me: Yeah alright

The way i speak to my dad on text is quite different to how i speak to my friends on text. This is because i will not use slang when speaking to my dad as on my dads side of  family talking in slang to a adult family member is perceived disrespectful. also knowing my dad if i misspell something he will start mocking me so i try to use correct punctuation and avoid using abbreviations. Even though my dad and i might use correct spellings we do not always use correct punctuation and i think this is out of laziness. Such as putting a full stop at the end of a sentence, people may not put a full stop because the receiver will still understand the message without it. This differs when using punctuation like exclamation marks and question marks. The reason people may a question mark is so that the receiver knows they are asking a question, or in some cases to show them that your confused. For example:

A: Tomorrow i’m going to Jamars house

B: Ok?

A: Just letting you know because i wont be at home tomorrow

B: Ohhh cool

Here person B says ok with a question mark. the reason B used a question mark was to tell A that he/she was confused and not sure why A told him/her. Therefore A recognises this and tells B why he told him/her “Just letting you know because i wont be at home tomorrow”

In a conversation, in person, you obviously wouldn’t have to say “question mark” after someone says something that confuses you because they will be able to tell by how you replied in your voice and your facial expression.

It was a normal Monday. I got out of bed. Brushed my teeth. Then had a shower. I dropped my sisters to school, as usual. It was only when I reached the bus stop that I felt it in my mouth. That disgusting taste.

Last week I got my tonsils taken out as I had tonsillitis and at the end of the operation the pain had finally stopped but not entirely, I would  sudden sharp pains as if someone was scratching my throat, at the time I just assumed it was normal symptoms after the operation. It wasn’t. The piercing painful part of the operation  is that they ran out of anaesthetic and had to perform the operation without it. They told me they hadn’t seen any records of the operation being performed without anaesthetic and encorouged that I take some painkillers and do the operation another time. My stubbornness beat me, I refused and they went to get their tools for the operation. Why didn’t I just wait! I think to myself. Now. As I lie in this revolting place.

Jays alarm went off at 6:40 “BEEP BEEP”. It was time to get up and ready for school. Jay got up rather lethargicly and walked slowly to the sitting room. His belly rumbled, he guessed he was hungry. He ate his normal breakfast, coco pops with milk, then flung his school uniform on. Jay continued his average weekday morning. He left home and made his way to the local bus stop to catch the 381. It came faster than usual, 2 minutes to be exact. Jay hopped on the bus and sat on his normal seat, upstairs, 1 away from the back, on the right. The bus started its journey. The bus was unusually quiet today as it was normally a very busy bus. Jay also had this odd feeling he was being watched. “Maybe I’m just being anxious” Jay thought to himself. After a short while the bus unexpectedly stopped. The driver spoke through the tannoy. “The bus terminates here the next 381 will be here in approximately 20 minutes”. Jay stomped in frustration, “that’s the second time this week” exclaimed Jay. He got off the bus and sat at the bus stop. He had no idea where he was as he didn’t know the area very well. It was quiet. It was cold. Jay checked the time it was 7:20 “I’m definetly going to be late” he thought to himself. He tried to ring his mum. Straight to voicemail. He tried his dad. Straight to voicemail. Knowing no other way to school Jay say at the bus stop waiting for the next 381. After a minute Jay was startled by a rusty, black bus with no numbers which stopped at the bus stop. The driver opened the door and repeatedly shouted “REPLACEMENT FOR THE 381 REPLACEMENT FOR THE 381!”. THERES ONLY ONE OF US!” Jay screamed. “Oh sorry my boy” said the driver “I forgot my glasses back at home; hop on” Jay said nothing. He got on the bus frowning as he stepped up. “I thought the next bus was in 20 minutes” Jay asked the driver while he drove the grimy bus. The driver simply replied “Change of plans”

Comparative essay

Fate is represented differently in the poem ozymandias and in the play julius caesar.

In the poem we explore the fate of Ozymandias the King. In the poem we find out that Ozymandias may have been a tyrant King. I know this because in the poem the author writes ” a shattered visage lies, whose frown and wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command.” I think The traveler is telling us that the statue gas a “sneer of cold command”. We now know the statue is of a is a tyrant because the traveller says of cold commands which tells us the King gave commands with no emotion. For example pronounce the execution of a thief with no emotion. Only a tyrant would have no emotion while giving commands because they do not care about about anyone else’s word his word is the one everyone shall agree with. These arrogant characteristics are one of a tyrant. “Stamped on these lifeless things, the hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed”. This is another quotation
