Bias: presenting only one side of an arguement

Format: radio broadcast

Firstly they present what is going to be told on the radio today. It starts on the subject of the rise in self harm reports in schools and hospitals, they show us an interview of a 13 year old girl who tells us she self harmed and how it progessed to become more deeper and painful cuts. The show then shows the opinion of a doctor, who is specialised in self harm’s, opinion. He states it is a physiological drive when being in certain mental state. This subject lasts a minute and 8 seconds.

The next story is about a terrorist attack on the famous French comic headquarters, Charlie Ebdo. The office was attached by 3 Muslim men, from their knowledge the terrorists attacked the office because the office controversily published a picture of the Phrophet Mohammed which therefore offended the attackers which drove them to murder not only the editor but everyone in the officer, killing 13 people and injuring 3. I don’t think murder is the correct justification for this matter or most matters even though it is in the qu’aran to never show Mohamned in any form ie: pictures, drawings or actors. They could have protested against the magazine to provoke then to stop showing Phrophet Mohammed. In my personal opinion there was no justification for murder regardless of what the magazine writers did. This subject was 2:40 long.

Newsbeat is aimed at an age range of 13-18; I know this because the broadcast starts with a story on self harming in schools which a person of that age range is likely to be interested in as they are going through school. Another factor is throughout the entire broadcast fast paced music is playing and fast paced music is a popular genre in that age group.

How does Shakespeare shw Prospero’s change. of character in the tempest.

Prospero is one of the most dominant characters in the play. We immediately know this through Miranda in act one scene two where we first meet Prospero. “You have put the wild waters in this roar, allay them”. Miranda tells us he has caused the storm. This tells us he is a powerful character because only someone with godly power can cause a storm. Another factor that shows us Prosper is very powerful is that he is always in control of the play, as if he moulds it. An example of this is when Ferdinand and Miranda first meet and slowly fall in love. In act one scene two Prospero states “It goes on, I see, as my soul prompts it”. This tells us that his plan is working “as my soul prompts it”

We also find out he causes the storm in his thought of vengeance, we know this because Antonio, Prospero’s brother, usurped him. We learn this when he is speaking to Miranda in act one scene two. “My brother and thy uncle, called Antonio-I pray thee mark me, that a brother should be so perfidious – he whom next thyself of all the world i loved, and to him put to manage of my state”. Prospero here tells us that his treacherous brother Antonio usurped him, but if Prospero wanted revenge why didn’t he just kill them? He wants them to be mentally affected not physically. We learn this when he is speaking to Ariel. “But are they, Ariel, safe?” Ariel replies. “Not a hair perished”. Meaning not a single wound. This also tells us Prospero may not have the courage to kill his brother or he  may just want his suffering too last.

A very interesting Relationship in the play was between Prospero and Miranda. We definitely know Prospero loves his daughter because he describes her to have a divine smile which gave him strength to survive on the island. ‘Thou didst smile, infused with a fortitude from heaven- which raised in me an undergoing stomach’ Prospero says her smile was powerful enough to drive him to  survive, but we also know he keeps secrets from her because as shown in act 1 scene 2 he put her to sleep as soon as she starts asking questions using a spell. ‘How came we ashore?’ ‘Would I might but ever see that man?’ Then Prospero put her to sleep. ‘Here cease more questions. Thou art inclined to sleep.’ This also shows us not only does he keep secrets form her but he abuses his powers and you will see many more examples of Prospero doing this forward in the play.

‘Tell your piteous Heart there’s no harm done’. When Prospero says this in my eyes he is giving us a head start on Mirandas personality because he could just be referring her ‘piteous heart’ to her feelings towards the people shipwrecked but I think Shakespeare is implying more than that. He is telling us Miranda is a fragile caring character and is easy minipulated, nieave.

Prospero character changed from a relentless being into a regretting wizard. When we are first introduced to Prospero in the first few chapters he is foreseen as an evil wizard as he commits gruesome acts such as causing the storm and he shows no remorse whatsoever. We know he shows no remorse because he says “tell your piteous heart theres no harm done” after Miranda questions if it was her father, Prospero, who caused the storm. This tells us he starts off as an evil character; but Prospero does change as you  wil see in my next paragraph.

“As you from crimes would pardoned be, let your indulgence set me free”(act 5 scene 1) Prospero has changed. This shows us he has changed as he understands what he has done was wrong (“as you from crimes would pardoned be”) and is asking for forgiveness (“let your indulgence set me free”). Another factor showing us Prospero has changed is he stops being constantly evil and vicious. “Set Caliban and his companions free: untie the spell”. If Prospero was in the state we explored in the last paragraph he would not have released Caliban and his companions but as he has changed and is no more the evil wizard he was he has a change in mind causing him to pursue in releasing Caliban and his companions.

This is complete

Act 4 scene 1 summary

In this scene Prospero gives Ferdinand permission to take Miranda, his daughter, in marriage but threatens him that if he has sex with her before marriage he shall curse her so she is unable to have children therefore Ferdinand agrees to this demand as his love for Miranda is much stronger than his want to have sex with her. ‘Then, as my gift, and thine own acquisition worthily purchased, take my daughter’ Prospero accepts Ferdinands request but after threatens to curse Miranda if he does not take heed to his demand ‘if thou dost break her Virgin knot before all sanctimonious ceremonies may with full and holy rite be ministered, no sweet aspersions shall the heavens let fall to make this contract grow; but barren hate’ Prospero states he shall curse Miranda if Ferdinand does not stay patient for list until after marriage.

‘All thy vexations were but my trials of thy love, and then hast strangely stood the test

Prospero is speaking to Ferdinand I know this because Prospero says ‘all thy vexation were but my trials of thy love’ we know he’s speaking to Ferdinand because noweone else loves Miranda. Prospero is saying he wanted to see how strong his love was for Miranda, he was forced carried massive loads of logs, and to Prospero’s surprise he passes the test. ‘Then hast strangely stood the test’ when he says this he is saying he is surprised he has stood the test. He may also be shocked because he didn’t believe a man like Ferdinand would be worthy of Miranda, his daughter’s love

Mother: Where do you think you’re going.

Son: Where do you think I am going?

Mother: Don’t think You’re going to that protest again.

Son: come on mum we need to fight for our rights do you want to live this inhumane life, I mean look what happened to dad.

Mother: DO NOT MENTION YOUR DAD WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM WASNT HIS FAULT!

Son: Exactly mother in already 16 and I have heard of kids my age being sent over constantly; don’t think I won’t be one of them. We have to fight for our rights.

Mother: Listen I understand your upset about your father still, ok, don’t you think I’m grieving too? We’re both suffering here it doesn’t give you consent to risk your life!

Son (sheds a tear) I have to fight for our rights I want to feel my fathers pain.

(Son pushes mum out the way and leaves)

Scene summary act 3 scene 3

In this scene Gonzalo suggests they stop searching for Ferdinand as they assume he drowned. ‘by’r lakin  , I can go no further, sir my old bones ache’. This quote tells us they have been searching for Ferdinand for a long period of time we also know he may just be fed up of searching for him.

‘Paunch him with a stake’

paunch is the verb, him being the  pronoun, with the preposition, a being the indefinite article and stake being the noun.

I have parsed this quote.

‘I will knuckle him until he bleeds’

‘Why are you so nosey’

‘He headered the ball sending it thundering into the back of the net’

Here I am verbing which is when you convert a noun into a verb
